Rosa Parks Art

Here is my daughter’s rendition of Rosa Parks on the bus.  Please note the closeup of her words.

My mom lives in Montgomery, AL and we went to visit her two years ago.  There’s a Rosa Parks museum, and you can take a bus tour of the city in a classic 1950’s style bus.  Lots of amazing history there.
Anyway, I found this picture inspiring, but I had a hard time explaining to my daughter why it was ok for Rosa Parks to get arrested–that she wasn’t actually a “bad guy” and that sometimes you have to break the law to make important changes in the world.  I’m not sure I did a very good job getting that message across.

MOMS POdi.

Today, my brilliant, gifted offspring did me the honor of immortalizing me with blue glitter gel pen!

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present…

On average, 1,500 women die every day during pregnancy or childbirth,
or about half a million per year, with 95 percent of them in Africa or
Asia. India alone accounts for 22 percent of the global total.

Why is this?

I don't actually mean why is it so uneven between rich and poor societies–but why would so many women die from childbirth complications in the first place?  It seems like there's some kind of evolutionary defect involved here.  How many female animals in the wild die from childbirth complications?

Any scientists in the house?
